The big risk is that Moderna runs out of money before they start getting revenue from the cancer vaccines. Having a steady stream from flu vaccines would extend their runway.
If Moderna needs recapitalization, and it happens through acquisition by a large pharmaceutical company, there's a high chance that the tech dies. Large Pharma is both a source of massive capital and a graveyard of excellent technologies.
